He pushes the thought away— he reflects, it’s better this than nothing, it’s better this than nothing, he’d rather have his boys as wisps of washed-out shadow than not have them at all— but he retires to his bedroom at night and in his head sees light-blue-green-so-light-like-sea-glass colored ribbons swirling past his eyes, shining and vivid and ethereal and just as imaginary as the rosy peach-toned living visions of his children from long ago."
